A compact introduction to Astana's left bank. Start outside the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, look at its architecture, then walk to the Bayterek monument. Pause for photographs and views of the capital's landmark; a visit to its observation deck is a separate activity. Continue along Nurzhol Boulevard to the Singing Fountain and finish at the next fountain in the eastern part of the boulevard. Allow 1–1.5 hours including stops. Water displays and musical programmes depend on the season and operating schedule; the architectural walk is still possible when the fountains are switched off.
